What are the basic difference between the TriCaster and the VT[4]?

While both are NewTek products and offer similar functionality, the TriCaster differs by being a truly portable presentation and live video switcher solution. All of the TriCaster’s input and outputs are contained within a small box that weighs only 10 pounds and needs only one monitor. Configured as a live video switcher the VT[4] requires a separate computer with one or two monitors plus a large, separate breakout-box for connecting its video and audio sources that is overall much heavier and requires greater effort to set-up for live presentations.

The TriCaster is designed primarily as a presentation device with a secondary role of graphics creation and video editing. The VT[4] incorporates the live switching and video editing tools of the TriCaster and adds advanced video editing, graphics creation, DVD authoring, 3D animation and video monitoring tools plus additional video inputs and outputs including component analog and SDI video.

Finally, a well-equipped VT[4] system with live video switching and non-linear editing capabilities starts at around $10,000.00 or twice the list price of the TriCaster.
